Lots of people are looking for cheap hosting solutions. It is also true that the price of hosting has decreased over the past few years. It is now more affordable than ever to host your website. One should be careful however, of opting for the very cheapest that you can find. Most often, these providers do overselling. This basically works on almost the same principle as airlines that do overbooking. Because airlines realise that about 10% to 15% of people who book their tickets will actually never make it to the plane, the allow overbooking of tickets of up to 10%.

The trouble comes when EVERYONE decides to pitch up and use their tickets. That is when you get long queues, grumbling passengers and air hostesses that seem to have smiles pasted onto their faces….

The problem is that hosting providers often sell large amounts of hard disk space and bandwidth for very cheaply, knowing full well that you will never use the space. The problem comes in when everyone starts unexpectedly using all their space and bandwidth allocated to them. Then everyone suffers.

But let’s look at the principles of shared hosting – what it is and who it works for.

~Shared Hosting~

Shared hosting is the best solution for most small and medium websites. The most important advantage is cost. Shared hosting is much cheaper and affordable than hosting on dedicated servers.

Even though in theory you should just sign up for the features that you will really need and thereby avoid paying extra costs, the truth is that web hosting packages are really becoming more and more feature rich while becoming cheaper at the same time. You will therefore GET a lot of features whether you need them or not. This is not a bad thing since it does mean that you can easily upgrade your account or install new software when you find that you are requiring more functionality than when you started.

Shared hosting is also good for web hosting companies. It can host hundreds of small and medium websites on a single server. This reduces the installation and maintenance costs, and gives the hosting company a higher return on investment.

Because of the danger of overselling however, you should ensure that the company uses state-of-the art servers with high processing power. These servers should be connected to the Internet on high speed bandwidth lines so that there is no choking when the traffic spurts. Most of these companies do advertise the type of servers that they use. If they do not disclose their server specifications, it might be better to steer away from them. Ask a friend, family member or Internet expert for assistance in trying to understand which servers are good and which are not.

You should be able to upgrade easily between packages should the need arise to move to a larger server or more bandwidth.

The web host must also offer 24×7 toll-free technical support rendered by experienced and professionally trained technicians.

You especially need to check whether the hosting company owns servers or is reselling hosting solutions. The latter situation is not conducive for your needs because the web host is only a middleman and is not in control of the solutions that he is selling. You may find that the services provided are not in keeping with the promises made.

~Your exit strategy~

You must always have a backup plan in case your web host goes bankrupt. This should include maintaining a backup of all your data you post on the web site. You should not depend on the backups done by the hosting company themselves but should make sure that you run your own backups through the control panel (and you definitely SHOULD have a control panel!)

This is also why you should always register your domain name with an independent registrar and not with the hosting company itself, since if they do go bankrupt, you might not only lose your website content, but your complete domain.

If you have been with Clickbank for a while and not making any decent money, would you consider quitting or continuing struggling?

Here are some tips that can help you to increase your earnings selling Clickbank’s products:

1) Avoid these two niches
If you are new in promoting Clickbank’s products, try to avoid selling products that are in these 2 niches – Internet marketing and Weight loss. The reason is because these two niches’ are too competitive, you’re not only needed to compete with the experienced marketers, but also the new marketers (as most beginner tends to choose these products from these 2 niches to start off with).

There are many niches that you can work on, try choosing some other niches and start working on it.

2) Did you send your visitors to the vendors’ sales page directly?
Most new marketers send their visitors to the vendors’ sales page and make a sale (or even no sales at all) after 100 – 200 page views. In this case, the conversion rate for a sale or the rate is about 0.5 – 1 percent. However, this percentage can even be lowered if the right keywords are not targeted on sending the visitors to the sales page.

By using this method, the marketers depend on the vendor’s sales page to make a sale. Most visitors are not mentally prepared to buy anything when they reach the sales page, so they click away from it, and you lose them forever.

Try sending your visitors to a squeeze page and capture their e-mail addresses instead, they will stay with you in the long run, and you can sell the related products one after another if you do it correctly.

If earning at least $1000 a week online means something to you, then download this FREE REPORT and learn how to promote Clickbank’s products the right way and stop struggling now.

To create a good domain name many factors are put into consideration.

First of all you must have a reason for setting up a domain. And this reason could fall into any of this two broad categories;

1.) For business reasons

2.) For personal uses

BUSINESS DOMAINS

To pick a domain name for a business purpose/reason, there are certain factors that will help you pick a good domain name, these includes;

a.) What type of online business do you intend running with your domain- the type of business you wish to do online will definitely affect what you pick as your domain name, this is because your domain name has to be related to what ever business you do. For example you don’t expect people who are looking for health related issues to visit a domain that bears a name on real estates.

b.) Use .com domain tags for domain business- this is because domains using the .com tags have universal acceptance compare to others like .org, .net, .ng, e.t.c. Must people who come online are familiar with .com tags after every domain/website name and it is by far the most marketable. Therefore there is the tendency that someone who wants to remember your domain name may mistake it to end with a .com tags when your domain ends with a .net, or .org.

c.) Avoid similar or familiar domain names- why you should avoid similar domain names is that a company may also be using that name and they may press against you to relinquish your domain especially when they have all it takes to do so. So to avoid you having a bad turn around in your business online after a little success avoid the similar domain names.

d.) Catchy domain name- to attract people to your domain it must be catchy in the sense that it is easy to read, understand, interpret and remember. You domain should be once that makes people curious to know what it’s all about. Make it short.

e.) You domain name should suggest what it is all about- if your domain is on political issues it should have a name that will suggest it is politically inclined

f.) Be specific about your domain name- to increase value to your domain and there by draw goo traffic to it, it should be a domain that tell what area it is focused on e.g. if you deal on Nissan motors instead of making your domain for example autodealers.com you should make it more specific like nissanautodealers.com.

g.) Use common names- use common words that are familiar to people so as to help increase traffic to your site

student interested in internet biz, for more on domain names or expired domain visit http://domainnames-nomnso.blogspot.com or expireddomaininfo-nomnso.blogspot.com

Taking web standards into account when designing a website may not be a primary concern for many site owners, but when it comes to finding an extra edge to improve their business, they are more than willing to do anything required to increase revenues. Let’s see how complying with Web standards can help a business website.

What are the Standards?

On the Web, the main standards are the languages used when creating websites. The most wide-spread ones are HTML, XHTML and CSS. HTML or XHTML are used to create the backbone of websites – the structure. (The difference between HTML and XHTML is that XHTML was formed from XML and is forward compatible.) CSS, in turn, is used to style, format and position the structure and content.

What is Web Standards Compliance?

Put simply, web standards compliance is using web languages correctly. This involves using HTML tags properly and the way they were and are intended to be used. For instance, one of the most common felonies against the web standards is using table tags for layout, while the correct usage is to use them only for tabular data (information to be put in tables).

Benefits of Standards Compliance

Creating quality, standards compliant code has a number of benefits:

Website forward compatibility

Increased site download speed

Browser compatibility

Easier site maintenance

Broader target audience

How Can This Help Business?

Perhaps every entrepreneur is asking himself right now, “And where is the money here?” Probably every benefit can either increase revenues or save expenses. Let’s look at them in detail.

Site Forward Compatibility

Web standards, such as XHTML and CSS, are designed to work forever. They will also be supported for an almost unlimited period of time. Designing a site according to web standards will ensure the website backbone will not need to be redone any time soon, which reduces the amount of work on the site and the expenses of the site owner.

Increased Download Speed

When using XHTML for content and structure and CSS for styling and formating, page size is reduced when compared to a page, designed with tables for layout. For instance, a site with a relatively small number of images is 50% smaller than a table-based website. Because users enjoy fast-loading websites (they start leaving after eight (8) seconds beyond clicking on a link), they will be more likely to become a clients of a web standards compliant website.

Browser Compatibility

A web standards compliant site is displayed correctly (and looks the same) in all standards compliant browsers. Adjusting the site to suit a less helpful browser (Internet Explorer, for instance) is much easier with CSS than with tables. This saves enormous amounts of time for a web designer.

Easier Site Maintenance

When separating content and styling with XHTML and CSS, it is much easier to edit any of those, because they are located in different files. Should one need to adjust the look of the main page heading ( ), he/she will just need to change a line or two in a style sheet to change the appearance of all headings on the website. Editing content is easier as well, because no styling and formatting is in the way and it is easy to spot the content in clean and semantically correct code markup.

Broader Target Audience

Furthermore, web standards are used not only on computers, but also by PDAs (hand held devices, palm computers), phones and other devices. A site, adhering to web standards, will be displayed correctly either without editing or will require very little work to be displayed correctly on a platform other than a computer. Such easy availability will make the company site easily accessible for a wider range of potential customers, increasing the chances of business success as well.

So What To Do?

Naturally, there may be several choices for a business site owner:

Do nothing and wait till something more noticeable becomes obvious about the web standards.

Wait, research the topic, get more proof and then redesign with web standards and visitors in mind.

Redesign the site right now, either with the help of an in-house web designer or a professional, specialized company.

Any of the choices above solely depend on the situation of the business site. Most probably, making a site web standards compliant will be most beneficial to starting or young websites, which will reduce the amount of work needed in the future. Mature websites can consider adjusting their websites to improve the quality of their visitor experience. Those, whose sites are barely important can live as they are, provided the site works. Thus, it all depends on the site owner and the situation the business is in.

Mideast firms vie for dot me (.me) domain

By Abdul Wasey

Almost all the big and medium-size companies, institutions, organisations and group in the Middle Eastern countries have their own websites. And those who don’t have are in the process of getting one.

Most of the firms have either ‘.com’ as their extensions or ‘.qa’, ‘.ae’, representing their respective countries. Some of the companies have both.

The importance of a website in the success of an individual or a business organization is an open secret. The rule is simple: If you don’t have presence in the cyberworld, your reach is extremely limited.

According to the latest study by digital research firm comScore, the global number of Internet users has crossed one-billion mark. A website makes an individual or a firm accessible to more than one-sixth of the world’s population.

Having a ‘.com’ as an extension to a website address is the ideal thing as people generally type the name of the company or organisation followed by ‘.com’. Then there is also trend to look for a firm by typing its title followed by country’s domain such as ‘.ae’, ‘.qa’, ‘.sa’, etc.

If you’re doing a business or running an organization in the Arabian Gulf region or Middle Eastern countries, you can now extend your reach by buying a new domain, which has been in quite demand for last few months.

These days, people in the Western countries have developed a tendency to search for a company by typing ‘.me’ as an extension. They think ‘.me’ stands for Middle East.

Interestingly, ‘.me’ was introduced to give a personal touch to domain names. For example, www.contact.me or www.John.me, etc.

However, now more and more Middle Eastern firms are vying to acquire this new domain as a step to secure businesses, particularly during the time of current global financial crisis when every deal – be it small or big – matters.

‘.Me’ is available with quite limited number of domain registrars, including www.gainfromdomain.com and can be bought at a very nominal price. All need to be done is to acquire the domain extension and forward it to the company’s present website address and the Internet searchers would be redirected to the company’s website.

Companies should not delay buying ‘.me’ domain extension at the earliest as internet squatters are out to grab the name of all the big firms and organisations possible and sell it back to them at a much higher price.

Abdul Wasey is a Senior Journalist working with a Dubai-based newspaper. He helps individuals and organisations in creating and running their website through his online store www.gainfromdomain.com.

There are some essentials to go searching for in a good site host provider before making you are your call. It is a necessity to ask the following questions before continuing to freeze on a site hosting supplier. One ) what quantity of money is involved in getting your internet site up and running? There are cheap and reliable hosting providers who can make your internet site function, often in 24 hrs. Cheap web site hosting might not be the sole influential factor for your Internet site cost though. Others might include : SEO, Selling etc.. 2 ) what type of space will your site need? It is important to make sure if your internet site needs big database storage or easy static site with the employment of less space. 3 ) Bandwidth should also be a factors. If you run enormous files thru your internet site every day, you can need more bandwidth. And for a static site, providing just the information about the company and contact info, you can go for smaller bandwidth. Check with the cheap Net site hosting provider before you make your call. 5 ) Does your website need a database? It is smart to test with the hosting provider, if they can host a database and some suppliers host only specific sorts. If your site requires a database, check all of the needs with the site hosting provider. Well, after you have asked yourself the questions above, visualise your internet site and its purposes. Have a neat navigation chart with links from default page to all internal pages and so on. Write down the function of each link on the site. It’s way better to work on it twice even 3 times so that when it is largely set up on your system, you and your cheap hosting provider may not be denied by any extra desires which will arise that you have missed. Go thru their server software, technical necessities and hardware.

You can do some incredible things with your advertising efforts, and you can win a loyal and yes, may I even say ravenous fan based that is’s avid to buy from you! How is this possible with all of the white noise out there and all the emails which flood into their mail box each day? Are you wanting loony responsiveness in your opt in marketing? What’s the first thing that they see when they are scanning their mailbox in the day? They see your name. You need to make your name equal worth, personal service, and be an amusing and informative service that communicates with them.

Are they curious about you, do they see your name and want to read that mail? No? Perhaps you haven’t truly been interested by them first. Consider it. Did you know that you can rise to the top in any market rapidly and hold that position for years to come, even if you don’t have any product and are competing with vet millionaires there? Make yourself different. Make yourself remarkable. Love on your patrons and contacts ( that will shortly become customers ) through private attention and unrelenting value . And throw some personality and entertainment in there to truly put it over the line. Make efforts to over-deliver and keep doing so.

That could be something as small as a private note. Whenever you are trying something new out, ask for input, ask for reactions, and keep asking. A way to do that’s to tie your mails into a Wordpress Blog on the backend, and solicit comments. Add viral features into your blog, like enhancements which allow the power to Tell Their mates with contacts notebook autosearch, and the facility to repost your content virally to their social networking accounts like Facebook.

Always ask for their top concerns, and continue doing so. Reward them when they answer you and supply input, with a free bonus. Train them and encourage them to give input and keep the relationship two ways. You’re responisiveness will go way up, as most e-mail lists out there are dead in the water as it’s a broadcast mindset.

Always be thinking about what their Problems are and how it’s possible for you to make them go away. They’ll love you forever as a result! To heat things up a gear further, have private and charismatic video communications to bolster your text communications. Remember your clients live in the same media rich world that you do, and folks judge and gravitate toward engaging content.

Get a decent video camera, soft box lighting, and even consider doing live free trainings from time to time over video to really through things into a mad level of response! Integrate small stories into your content, and success stories where necessary. You would like a totally interactive experience that’s engaging folks on all levels and is providing worth yet personalized service and attention up front. Giving while wanting nothing. Remember, your audience are folk and people understand when they are being spoken to by autoresponders versus when they are being engaged. Find little private methods to make yourself stand out, and you’ll be a genuine person who has built some wonderful trust with people and they are going to be so grateful. It all begins with what’s in your heart. Is your first objective to solve their issues and make them believe that they can succeed? If so you’ll be wildly successful!

There are many strategies for making money on the Internet, but most lead to frustration- unless you’re building a big list. List building and Email Marketing Opt In is THE most profitable way to make serious money on the Internet. When you build a list of eager and willing clients, you control your income and your life for many years to come.

But first, the science:

Using Back2Front as an example our web address looks like this: http://www.back2front.ca

http://The “http://” part is the protocol used to talk to web servers . Others examples are “mail” or “ftp” used to communicate with mail and ftp servers respectively.

. “dot”The rest of the address is the Domain Name. It is made up of parts separated with a “.” (pronounced “dot”).

WWWFor web sites the first part is usually “www” meaning World Wide Web. In some cases the www is optional. Web servers can be set up in such a way as the www part is assumed and so you can reach the same web site whether or not you type in the www part. For all of Back2Front’s clients the www is optional.

NAMEThe second part is the bit you make up, (the name) ours is “back2front”. More on this later.

TLDThe next part, usually the last part, is called the TLD or Top Level Domain. Ours is “ca”. Other examples are “com, org, net,”. Sometimes before the TLD you will see an additional part indicating a subsection of the domain. For example in Canada there are subsections of the .ca TLD to indicate province. The one for Ontario would look like this “www.back2front.on.ca”.Technical requirements for Domain names;UniqueYour domain name must be Unique. The “name” plus the “TLD” and any “subsection” there of, in combination, must be unique for each web site. But do not worry, you will not be able to register a domain name that is already taken the registries are responsible for preventing this from happening.

Character SetDomain names are restricted to the alpha numeric character set and the dash. Characters like (&@$%*’?=+#) are not allowed as part of a domain name. For example; “back-2-front” is acceptable, “back&front” is not. When you see forbidden characters used after the TLD, they are not actually part of the domain name but are parameters used in web programming.

CaseCase is not significant in a domain name. For example “www.Back2Front.ca” is identical to “www.back2front.ca” as far as the naming system is concerned.

Now the Art of choosing a Domain Name:

Once you have satisfied the science, or the technical requirements for your domain name then comes the ART of choosing a domain name. Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing the NAME part of your domain name.

MemorableLots of folks use the initials of the founders or other unfamiliar acronym to come up with a name, like “www.BAF.com”. Well, fine, but who can remember a random 3 letter acronym? “www.BestAccountingFirm.com” may not be creative, but it is much more memorable.

Spell-ableIs it “www.colour.com” or “www.color.com”? If they can’t spell it, they can’t find it. However, if you have an idea for a name that is commonly misspelled, register both spellings to avoid the problem. If it is just plain difficult to spell, like pneumonia.com, just think of something else.

ShortThe longer the name, the more likely it will be that there will be errors in typing it, or spelling it. Fitting it on signs and other advertising materials could be a problem as well. So all else being equal the shorter the better.

Indicates What You DoThis rule is not hard and fast and is often difficult to accomplish but it is worth considering. A name like 123accounting.com makes it clear from the outset what sort of business you are in, and this is good. However, Back2Front could be anything, so we added “The Web Site People” as a tag line to make it clear. You can do this too.

The Humour TrapBe careful with humorous names. It may work brilliantly, but it also could cause you untold grief. The restaurant called “The Slug in the Lettuce” was apparently not adversely affected by this distasteful name, but it could have backfired.

Double Meanings and Unintended ConnotationsThe humble grain ‘Canola’ was once called ‘Rape Seed’. The name was changed for obvious reasons. Make sure the name you pick does not have unsavoury and unintended meanings for other people. Ask around. Especially ask people from other cultures, languages, and backgrounds for their opinion. You may be surprised at what you find out!

For PosterityTry to pick a name you can live with for a long time. Changing your name is a hassle you can do with out. You will spend a lot of time and money ‘getting your name out there.’ Do not waste it by picking a name that won’t stand the test of time. If possible choose a name, and live with it for a while before committing to it in print and advertising. (You may want to register the one you are considering to make sure you don’t lose it while you are thinking.) Then once you do commit, keep the name! Do not be tempted to switch names each time you think of another one you like. There are millions of possibilities and you can’t have them all.

Your company nameOf course if you have been in business a while already and have been working under a name that is known to your clients, or in your industry, you will most likely want to register a name very similar to your company name. But be warned just because you have a registered company name does not mean that you will be able to get the domain name to match!

The main reason to say I like discussion boards is that their are great place to communicate. When their owners succeed to bring online a large number of intelligent and conscientious people, the place becomes an outstanding resource to learn and share your knowledge. No doubt WHT is place like that. So When I decided to post something realted to managed hosting service I went there to read.
So who needs to use managed hosting service? Those who know nothing about server management or others who want to focus on business but not technical issues. I’ve seen some comments in popular hosting forums and decided write something about it here.
Let’s summarize the answers posted by forum members.
Managed Hosting Is For Newbies
AH-Tima: Its for people who don’t know how to properly manage their servers… or think that everything can be done via a control panel and securing a server means installing APF and BFD.
Voyeur: When something goes down on your server it’s the managed host that always knows first and will restart the service or fix the problem for you while control panel will often times fail to even restart a service properly.
Anatha: Show me a managed hosting that manages server without installing any control panel software, with just minimal OS. I bet 99% of managed hosts out there install some kind of control panel, mostly cpanel and sell it off as managed hosting cause all they have to do is press a button or two to fulfill their customer’s queries. If they agree to do it without a control panel, they will probably charge ridiculous fees Managed hosting is only for those people who actually start with a dedicated server and have no idea what going on. They want to own a dedicated server but dont know crap about how to do it.
Zsuatt: We manage servers both with control panels and without control panels, and control panels are ok for users who would like to know some basic details about their servers or do some low level administration like adding mail users or whatever without having to go into more in depth with server administration.
MaxX: The managed hosters I have come across arent very intelligent at all.. sometimes they do things like blame everything on ‘ddos attacks’ and ban spider ip’s.. which I then have to painfully remove one by one.. and I end up finding the solutions myself as its faster than wasting time with the support drones.
Managed Hosting Is For Business Focused People
TrafalgarWeb: There is far more to securing and managing a server than any software or control panel does or can do.
Andrew: I think you are missing the point of managed hosting. Managed hosting (unless specified differently) does not mean that the hosting provider is involved in the day to day operations of your website. Adding email addresses is a day to day operation issue, not a server management issue. For this, clients are given a point and click interface (control panel) in order to accomplish their day to day activities with ease… When a provider has to manage large numbers of machines, the idea is to make those machines as uniform as possible. Control panels make this easier. Management teams don’t seek uniformity because they are lazy or not good at their job. They do it because it helps them to more efficiently troubleshoot problems and in the end it makes it easier to help the end user when they have a problem.
People who run businesses want to do just that: Run a business. They don’t want to have their nose in a linux book all day trying to figure out why something failed to compile properly or even how to compile something in the first place.
Layer0: Some clients prefer not to ever touch their site’s control panel, ftp, etc. Instead they pay others to do that work for them. You may think it’s easier for them just to do it themselves, but you’d be surprised how uncomfortable some people are with it.
Infinix: It comes down to what you provide as your managed service and if you are going to cater for the less technical clients out there… Managing and meeting customer expectations is what makes a good host IMHO.
AcuNett: The bottom line is, control panels are not intelligent. Humans are. I could name a thousand things right now that could go wrong that a control panel will be helpless to fix.
JPaul: Once server is build and Control Panel is installed – there is no other activities from end users which can be performed on server beyond control panel. Means if control panel does not allow Shell access, one can not access server on root level. Now, whenever new upgrades and patches are coming that needs to be installed. Can that be done by dedicated server provider or managed service provider and at what cost – that may be question?
But, if you are providing root access to multiple parties (like in cPanel) perhaps Managed hosting is very crucial.
Neutral About Managed Hosting
TieuDieuTu: It greatly depends on how each company defines the word management. Whenever you need something to be done with the server but you CANNOT do it via any type of control panels (be it CPanel, Plesk, DA, etc.) and you need to do it via ssh or someone else use ssh to do it for you, then it’s management.
jcooter-sliqua: The control panel is there for one purpose and one purpose alone. To make the routine management tasks simpler and easier. It allows clients to do some things, such as adding and removing email accounts, that they wouldn’t be able to do under normal circumstances. There are also simple tools for server management companies, such as restarting services. It’s not unleet to use a control panel to do something if it saves you time. However, it does not solve everything, nor does it try to. It’s there to make the routine tasks easier… not to provide full on management of a server. There’s also the human aspect of server management companies… having a person who can give you advice about what to do with your server is always going to beat what a control panel can tell you.
My Reflections
Don’t expect me to say big words, especially after all those comments. It is obvious that the different levels of knowledge requires various solutions. According to one of the forum members “Fully Managed Linux Hosting Service” means:
* Initial setup and configuration
* Server Hardening (Security)
* Service Monitoring and Response (FTP, SSH, HTTP, HTTPS, mySQL, SMTP, etc.)
* O/S Critical Updates and Patches
* Control Panel Critical Updates and Patches
* Approved Software Install and Support
* PHP and Perl Module Install
* SSL Certificate Install
* Troubleshooting and Repair Server Problems
* 24/7/365 Toll-Free Server Outage Phone Number
I’m sure many things can be added to the definition above as well as to this discussion. Hope it helps you to better understand managed hosting service.
